What do we know about Torvosaurus (Torvosaurus tanneri and Torvosaurus gurneyi)?
- The meaning of it’s name is “Savage Lizard”
- Peter Galton & James A. Jensen named the dinosaur in 1979 in celebration of the paleoartist, James Gurney. He was the creator of the Dinotopia series of books.
- Torvosaurus Tanneri fossils was found from Colorado and Torvosaurus Gurneyi fossils which included fossilized embryo and eggs was found from Portugal.
- It’s considered the largest carnivore theropod during the Jurassic period and it’s approximately 40 feet long and 5 tons.
- It’s classification: Chordata, Reptilia, Dinosauria, Theropoda, Megalosauridae Megalosaurinae.
- Torvosaurus could eat large plant-eating dinosaurs like stegosaurs and sauropods.
